ATI Radeon 9600 with Linux
ATI Radeon 9600 works, when “xforcevesa” boot parameter is used.
ATI Radeon is not well supported on Linux, because ATI has not published its specs. Another display adapter might be a better choice. The problem is a blank, black screen when graphical desktop should load. This fix has been tested on Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper, but it could work on other Debian based Linuxes too.

Fix
Test that this fix works for you
Boot with Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper Desktop (Live) CD. Choose F6, “Other options”. A line full of boot parameters is opened for editing. Continue the line and type
xforcevesa
then press enter.
If you get a graphical desktop, it works. Proceed to install Linux.
If the problem persists, this fix does not work for you. Just reboot the computer and remove the CD. Nothing has been changed in your hard disk.
Make this setting permanent
Install Linux normally by clicking the “Install” icon on the desktop. Installed system will automatically have “xforcevesa” boot parameter.
Boot your installed computer. If you get a normal, graphical desktop, congratulations, you fixed it.

Asennettu Linux toimii normaalisti.
